1. The type of job

6. Cleaning and protecting the system

A new boiler on dirty radiator water will not last. Expect a system flush and a magnetic filter on a proper quote. Manufacturers can refuse warranty claims where the system was not cleaned, so this is not the place to save money.

7. Controls

In England, a replacement boiler has to be fitted with time and temperature controls, and a combi needs an additional energy saving measure such as a smart or weather compensating control. A basic programmer and thermostat cost less than a full smart system.

8. The condensate pipe

Every modern boiler produces waste water that has to drain away. Routing that pipe to an internal drain is best. Where it has to run outside, it should be the right size and insulated so it does not freeze in winter.
